While the act of falling in love and committing to each other doesn't really change, the way that we celebrate weddings certainly does. From the food and flowers to dancing and décor, wedding trends present fun ways to personalize your big day. As Calgary wedding caterers with our ear to the ground (and head in the planning), we want to share some of the hottest wedding trends we’re seeing.

Take it outside: Al Fresco dining

Simply meaning that you dine outside, this trend feels as fresh as it sounds. If your wedding date is set during the summer months, Al Fresco dining is one way to bask in the beauty of everyone’s favorite season - literally. With European influences, Al Fresco adds an airy, casual atmosphere to your wedding. All you need is Mother Nature to cooperate!

Raise the bar: Beverage tasting

Weddings are a celebration of love, and with any celebration comes plenty of beverages. So why not turn the toasting and sipping into something special? Craft beer tasting is always a hit. Lemonade stands - spiked or not - are a nice touch. Or you could create a signature cocktail inspired by you, and enjoyed by your guests. Getting creative with beverage tasting is another cool way to inject personality into the whole day.

Make it a family affair: family-style dining

A wedding is all about two families becoming one. And there’s no better way to mark the occasion than with family-style dining. This serving style allows for plenty of sharing, conversation, and laughter. With a casual and livelier dining style, guests will serve themselves, then pass the plates around the table. They’ll get to know each other better too.

A late night love affair: Tasting stations

Weddings make people happy, but they make them hungry too. After all the dancing and mingling, it’s always nice to indulge your guests in late night tasting options (http://www.devourcatering.com/late-night-fun-menu/.) Food trucks are quickly becoming a craze, while other themes like tacos, pizza, or waffles will recharge your party, and give guests another reason to stay.

It’s all about you: Customized menus

Speaking of food, one hot trend we’re seeing is custom menus, which add another layer of variety and detail to the celebration. Even if you don’t consider yourself a foodie, we can help you create a unique meal that goes beyond meat and potatoes.

Unleash your inner child: Loot bags

Remember how excited you got as a little kid when you received a loot bag at a birthday party? That treat is making a come back, but in a grown up way. Loot bags can be as special or funny as you make them, and they don’t have to be costly. But without a doubt, they will put a smile on your guests’ faces.

As a committed Calgary caterer, we can help you decide which trends are worth incorporating into your wedding, and which ones you may want to avoid. And while trends are a great way to add flavor to your wedding, you never want to rely on them alone to create a special wedding. It’s about connections, making people feel comfortable, getting people mingling and celebrating the love between two incredible people.
